Microwaves are a great way to heat up your food, but they can get really dirty over time. Sometimes it is hard to remember to clean them until you step away from the kitchen and notice that it smells like something died in there (gross). Don't worry though! There are some easy ways to make sure your microwave stays clean for years without any work on your part.
Microwave the lemon for two minutes to release the natural oils and juices. After that, wipe down the microwave with half of a lemon and some salt to remove any food particles or stains. For tougher messes, use full lemons since they are stronger than other citrus fruits like oranges or limes. You can also put vinegar in your microwave instead of using lemons if you want something more eco-friendly as well as less acidic on your appliances (if it's not metal).
Place three tablespoons of baking soda into a clean mug/bowl/cup along with one tablespoon of dish soap and fill up the rest with hot water until it is around halfway full. Place the cup in the microwave and heat it up for two minutes until there are lots of bubbles inside (be careful not to explode your mug). Once you take out the cup, use a sponge or dishcloth to wipe down all surfaces with ease! You can also make an eco-friendly alternative by using vinegar instead of water if you don't mind having a strong smell around for awhile after cleaning.
Put a bowl of white vinegar into the microwave and heat it up for five minutes. Then, use a sponge or dishcloth to wipe down all surfaces with ease! You can also add lemon juice for an even stronger smell that will break down any dirt or food particles on your appliances (just make sure you don't put too much in).
If your microwave smells bad, slice an onion into thin pieces and place it on a plate. Put the plates in the microwave for 20 minutes to remove any odors that are stuck inside of it! You can also add lemon slices or vinegar-soaked paper towels with parsley sprinkled over the top if you don't have onions around.
Coffee grounds are great for getting rid of any tough stains on your microwave's walls or inside. Just place some coffee grounds in a bowl and heat them up along with water (about half an inch) in the microwave for five minutes. You can use a sponge to wipe down all surfaces once you take out the hot mixture!
If you have a spill in your microwave, clean it up immediately to prevent any bacteria from growing on the spilled food. If there is dried food left over after a spill though, put some water and dish soap into a bowl or cup and heat it up for five minutes so that all of the dirt falls off of your appliances easily!
There are lots of easy ways to keep your microwave clean without too much effort. Try one or two of the methods mentioned above and see which ones you like best!
