How To Repair Floor Joists With Water Damage?

Home- a safe haven for every human being on the planet.  A place where you feel safe, where you can grow, achieve and live.  A place like no other.  People dream of their dream homes and eventually want to build one for themselves.  A house that will become their home.  The dream house is structured to be the most reliable and safest building to live in.

Using the best designs and materials, homeowners usually put everything in just to have a safe and reliable construction of their homes.  It is the place where they are going to grow, where their children are going to grow.

It has to be the best.

Homeowners, after forming their dream homes, get into the routine of maintaining it as well.  It is a necessity for the house.  Because without it, the house will start to wither and eventually collapse.  M

ostly the problem arises in the floor joists due to water damage.  Floor joists are beams that are put horizontally for larger spaces to give them strength during construction.  These joists are the foundations of the floor.

They can easily be damaged due to water leakages.  Water leakages usually occur due to groundwater, floods, and humidity or plumbing leaks.  These leaks eventually lead to eventually forming cracks in the floor.

Making it soft that it starts to sag at one point and can eventually collapse if not treated in time. The moisture in the floor can formulate moulds and fungus underneath the floors, which exudes a very pungent smell throughout the house.   Maintaining a house is the only way you can stop your house from falling around you.

If the maintenance is not done regularly then the ultimate repairs will be very costly.  Lucky for those, whose houses if affected by a disease within the points of the insurance policy, then their repairs shall be covered by their home insurance.  But not all are that lucky.

But you have to live in your house and repairs have to be made.  So, the floor joists damaged by water can be repaired.

The repairs can be made by the homeowner himself, but highly recommended that professional help be sought.  Because to repair the floor joists, firstly, the damaged part from the floor must be removed completely.

Now add on to the supporting frame as needed.  It should be per the old framing of the floor and should give it the strength that it lost.

Now the use of plywood in the floors is a good decision as they are not easily affected by moisture.  Make sure the correct length is cut and placed in the supporting frame.  It should be a little distance from the old subflooring. In the end, the plywood is to be fastened into the floor with the help of nails and screws.  All these repairs can be very costly especially if the house is left without maintenance for a long period.  A homeowner should take care of their house as carefully as they do of their children.

Because a home has to be safe and is not made easily.
